Throwback Thursday - Somerset
This week's #ThrowbackThursday is coming to us from Somerset County!
This photo features the Rockwood Brewing Company building!
This brewery was first built in 1908! It was in operation up until the Prohibition in 1920. This caused the brewery to ultimately shut down. After the end of prohibition, the brewery was opened up again but was called the Rockwood Brewing Corporation. This was until it became the Belmont Ale Brewery Corp in 1934. The brewery ended up closing its door completely in 1935.
Some of the most famous brews it produced are the following: Belmont Pink Elephant Ale, Hahne’s Bavarian Brew, Pennsbury Ale, Pennsbury Lager Beer, Pennsbury Pilsener Beer, Pennsylvania Dutch Ale, and Rockwood Special Beer!
What are some of the local brews where you live? Let us know in the comments!
